Overwatch Not Being Developed For Mac
Screengrab via Reddit(Blizzard responded to Polygon’s with the note that the developer has nothing to announce right now. Overwatch gameplay systems lead engineer Tim Ford also commented on Overwatch for Mac during an interview with. “We have no plans of giving sic this game on the Mac,” Ford said. “There are several technology decisions that Apple has made that has made it a little difficult for us to release Overwatch in the way we want it to be consumed, and that is why we haven’t pursued it.” From both statements, it’s safe to assume the Overwatch installer on Mac was a bug. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan previously said Blizzard was “open minded” with regard to launching on Mac, but it sounds like now is not that time.

Every single one of Blizzard's games has been released on Mac. This game is not the most graphically intense game, and is certainly capable of running on higher end Mac hardware.
By comparison, the time and effort spent optimizing a game for consoles, which have less power than a Mac, was deemed to be reasonable. Meanwhile, Blizzard made no statements to confirm or deny the widely accepted assumption that Overwatch would join every other Blizzard game on Mac. I will still buy the game, but I think Blizzard should know when they have done something wrong. I have never bought or played a Blizzard game before, and I am sorry that this is my first experience of how they do business. Thanks for reading.
TL;DR: Mac port is more important than console port. This game is not the most graphically intense game, and is certainly capable of running on higher end Mac hardware. Exactly what I was about to post.
From the limited reports I've seen, it doesn't play too great on integrated graphics. Which is basically what most mac devices have. By comparison, the time and effort spent optimizing a game for consoles, which have less power than a Mac Pretty sure even the consoles have much beefier graphics than most macs. I'm not sure how well the Mac Pro's workstation firepros would perform either, since those drivers are really geared towards workstation usage instead of gaming.
All of their games need the graphics engine recoding for OpenGL. Mac and Linux use OpenGL, while Windows uses Direct X. It's Microsofts own library for graphics and does not work on anything else except consoles because Microsoft worked with them to get it running and easier to port between consoles and PC. In the past it probably worked out financially for them, but this time it appears maybe it isn't doing. With more Mac gamers boot camping it's probably just easier for them to release on Windows only than rebuild the library for OpenGL. Bare in mind that Overwatch is its own engine. They will have to code for OpenGL just like they did in every other game, but decided that this time it's not worth the time.
Do you have a copy of Windows 10 to share with me for free? Sure, I can dual boot via bootcamp then. It's just a fight between Microsoft and Apple.
Does Overwatch Work On Mac
There was always a though that Windows is good for gaming (consoles are almost the same thing, Windows 10 is running on them too). Imagine yourself a user of OS which has no software, it's really terrible. Dual boot is not a solution, it's just a temporary way of solving the problem.
There will be another game you will wish to play, but you will not be able to. 90% of games are written for PC because of Microsoft sponsorship. Why the Steam platform is still working on OS X?
Should it stop supporting OS X and Linux? Why are you arguing with me like I made the decision to not develop for Mac?

You asked me why it wasn't being developed so I told you. Steam exists on OSX because there are games for OSX. Unity and UE4 are responsible for the majority of indie games these days and both support OSX out of the box. OW's engine, however, was built from the ground up by Blizzard so they would have needed to code for OpenGL and DX11 and decided that it just wasn't worth the time. 90% of games are wrote for PC's because 95% of players use PCs. It's nothing to do with Microsoft sponsorship as they get nothing from each individual sale of a game, and quite a large chunk of gamers use pirated versions of Windows anyway.

Only 3.49% of Steam users use any form of Mac OS. It just isn't financially viable for companies to develop for Mac, especially on an FPS where frame rate is vital to the experience.
Apple have priced themselves out of the gaming market by demanding a premium on their hardware. The first Mac you can buy with a dedicated card (Either AMD or nVidia) is a 27' iMac with an M380, coming in at £1,449 here in the UK. Every model below that runs an Intel chip, which just can't handle gaming very well at all. You could build a gaming PC that can handle games much better than that for less than half the price. That, is the reason why companies don't develop for Macs.
Not big evil Microsoft paying them not to. I'm just angry on Blizzard because of they didn't opened beta access and now I found that I can't even play that game. But I want to. 90% of games are wrote for PC's because 95% of players use PCs. It's nothing to do with Microsoft sponsorship as they get nothing from each individual sale of a game, and quite a large chunk of gamers use pirated versions of Windows anyway.
Is Overwatch Available For Mac
Maybe it's easier to develop games for Windows because of DX11. And that's why software developers do games for Windows platform. Yes, Microsoft does not get any money from individual game, but view it in perspective: Microsoft make a deal with Blizzard to show their ads, gamers see the ads, and next time Microsoft releases new Windows version, gamers just go and buy a PC with new Windows on it. It's profit for Microsoft, because you will get a Windows PC, it's a profit for Blizzard, because they will need to support less platforms in that case and all of this because of money.
Why are you arguing with me like I made the decision to not develop for Mac? Sorry if I made you think like that.
