Hi All I am new to Civ IV Warlords and am playing it on my Mac (with the current patch). I am running a game where I am Rome and am sharing a continent with Tokugawa to my north and Roosevelt to the far north and Churchill to my south. I am the largest civ on this continent. We are all at world peace - no wars, and I am friendly with Roosevelt and Churchy, and Toku is 'cautious' or 'friendly' to me (I've reloaded and played from this point a few times, and his disposition varies from time to time). Toku comes to me out of the blue and offers to be my vassal (I have saved the game a couple of turns prior to this).

I accept, figuring what the hey - the second after I click 'sounds like a deal', the horns of war sound, and the message comes up 'You have declared war on Roosevelt'. There were no wars prior, and I did NOT declare war on anybody. The next message that pops up, is 'Toku has become your vassal', and immediately after that the horn sounds again and the message 'Toku has delcared war on Roosevelt' appears. My question is - Why is this happening? There was no war between anybody prior to this dialogue, and I thought that the vassal was supposed to adopt the master's diplomatic state? It seems to me that the AI is 'cheating' a little here - using my acceptance of vassalage as an excuse to drag me into a war with one of my friends, but I don't know how it's doing this. I've reloaded a few times, and Toku always asks to become my vassal right around this point in the game.

I refused him once, and several turns later he offered again. (If I don't accept, he bugged me a couple more times and then declared war on me). Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for the replies. Yes, I am.absolutely. sure they are not at war.

I checked - I saved a couple of turns before the vassal offer, so I went back to the save and NO WAR between anybody. Then the offer to 'please protect us' pops up, and then all of a sudden I am declaring war. As I said, in the message window, 'Richie has declared war on Roosevelt' is the first message. The second message is 'Toku is now the vassal of Richie' and the THIRD message is 'Toku has declared war on Roosy'. There was no war previous to me clicking 'accept' in the diplo/vassal screen. I'm wondering if it's a 'bug' or an AI 'cheat'. He says he declined Toku's offer once, and he offered again a few turns later - presumably still at peace the entire time.

So the idea that Toku was at war with Roos already and Richie simply didn't notice is not feasible - his turning down the offer would have made the war evident in subsequent turns. What it sounds like to me is that the AI is definitely cheating. Toku wants to declare war, but knows it isn't feasible.

So when Richie accepts, Toku is simultaneously declaring war. This is the only explanation I can see as being possible based on the facts provided. It's definitely a case of 'AI Cheating.' You know, this banter could be easily resolved by posting a save game. Those that think Roos and Toku were at war when the vassal agreement was asked for could easily find out for themselves.

Question About Vassal For Mac Free

Personally, I'm in the camp that there was peace everywhere one turn, when the OP clicked 'next turn'. But then the war started between Roos and Toku, and Toku asked for the vassal agreement, the OP accepting it drug the OP into the war as well. The 'issue' is that the only way the OP could know what happened is by hitting 'F4' when the vassal agreement was offered.

Toku comes back a few turns later and offers to be my vassal again. As long as I keep turning him down (happened 3 times in one game), nothing happens. No war, nothing. BUT, as soon as I click the 'accept' button - I find myself 'declaring war on Roosevelt'. And it's always ME that declares war first, and then the Vassal. This way it appears that I am dragging my Vassal into a war, when in reality it is the AI conniving to get me to attack his enemy.

I have run a completely new game (me as Egypt)- new parameters, etc. I got an offer from Cyrus to be my vassal. I accepted this (curious, to see if what seems to be the AI 'cheating' would occur again), and nope - no war for anybody. As for posting a save game - how do I do this? And as for 'Ctrl-Tab' giving me a game log - I'm on a Mac, so that key combination didn't do anything. reply to the offer of Vassalage and get the diplo screen away before I can check the state of world affairs. I tried this (hitting F4) the very first time the offer came up. And - after I decline the offer of Vassalage, and then I hit F4 - nobody is at war!

So, I guess this brings up another question - if you can NOT access the F4 screen during a diplo dialogue, (and, assuming that the F4 screen shows NO WAR during the previous turn) then how is the player supposed to know exactly what the state of the world is at that point in time (when the player has to make a decision like this)?? It seems to me that in this scenario, a lot changed in that one turn, but I as the player can't find out about the updated information until it's too late. I am always tempted to pump my vassals full of techs, so I can put their research and production to proper use (a few catapults and chariots don't help much when you and your next enemy have stacks of cannons and riflemen, or better). The problem is I am always expecting my vassal to give the key military techs to my future enemy (who I may have great relations with at the time).

The.mod extension is used by Windows Media Player to identify movie files. Vassal modules have historically also used that extension.

Because of this conflict, new modules should use a.vmod extension. But some of the older files have not been updated yet. They really are Vassal modules, but the computer gets confused because another program uses the same extension to mean something different. The module I downloaded expanded into a bunch of files Sometimes your web browser will automatically expand module files, since they are really just zip archives. You can tell this happened if there are a bunch of files and folders, including among others, an 'image' folder. This seems to be more common on Macintosh systems. When a module is created, the author has the option of defining Sides (e.g. German/Russian, Red/White). Not all modules have sides defined. When you create a new game, or load a scenario file that does not have all sides allocated, you are presented with a pop-up menu of the sides to choose from. The ownership of Masked pieces and Hidden pieces (and of Concealed counters in VASL or VSQL) is based on your password when the pieces are masked or hidden. If you subsequently change your password, you will lose ownership of those pieces and you wills see them as your opponent sees them. The solution is to change your password back to what it was.

The passwords used in Vassal are secure and there is no way to recover them. You will have to try to figure out what you chose as your password. Why can't I see all the events and pieces when the other player moves?

This is usually caused by not being synchronized with the other player. When you start an on-line (server) game, all players must be synchronized. One of you has to right click on the other's name in the server controls and select synchronize. With multiple players everyone should pick a single player to synchronize with, such as the player who initiated the game.

This will make sure that everyone’s game position is consistent. When you synchronize, any side selection, piece movement and map selections you have performed will be reset and replaced with the game information of the player to whom you synchronized.
